Pathless Realm (Anecdote) — Protofield Anomaly, 10-Day Stranding

Caleb · MC — Skyhaven Aerospace Academy · Deepspace Tunnel · Skyhaven

The single most important backstory event in Caleb's arc before the Bloomshore explosion. He is top of his year at the Aerospace Academy but fails the mental-health evaluation — he admits flying is escape, not ambition. His final flight assessment is a solo patrol inside the Deepspace Tunnel. A Protofield anomaly disables his nav system. He's stranded with limited supplies. Instead of waiting for rescue, he forces his way through the 'pathless realm' — the broken, unmapped zones of the Tunnel — alone for 10 days. At some point during those 10 days, he comes close to accepting death and turns off his rescue signal. That specific darkness is the arc's emotional core. He is eventually recovered from an abandoned floating island far from Skyhaven's main isle, severely injured, recovering with surprising speed. After this, his dissociative amnesia worsens. His dreams become chaotic. The clock-into-metal dream surfaces (see caleb-childhood-experimentation). A second dream fragment shows an unidentified figure offering to share the same sky with him. The Academy doctors write everything off as standard Deepspace Tunnel aftereffects. His classmate Timothy witnesses this period. At graduation, Caleb's name appears on the alternate list — not the main roster. He files a transfer application, drops his DAA ID card in the return bin, and tells MC his view has shifted: from 'the path matters' to 'who you are and where you're going matters more.'
