# Death and Rebirth — Nightmare Genesis: The Person the Evol Nearly Killed Was MC

> The Death and Rebirth arc chapter 'Nightmare Genesis' (ch.4-11) formally names the person Zayne's Ice Evol nearly killed at age twelve as MC — injured and sent into a coma. This recontextualises his entire character arc: he has spent over a decade believing he is personally responsible for her fragility.

## Description

Chapter 4-11, titled 'Nightmare Genesis', is the scene that closes the loop on the central mystery of Zayne's psychology. It confirms what was previously left unnamed: the person his Ice Evol nearly killed in 2033 was MC. She was injured in that incident and fell into a coma. Zayne has spent over fifteen years not knowing she survived it — or knowing she did and carrying every day since as a sentence. Every act of distance-keeping, every deliberately cold affect, every career choice in the direction of fixing her heart — all of it is recontextualised. The nightmares are of this. The Dawnbreaker is built from this. The black ice is this.
