# Josephine — MC's Grandmother, Gaia Research Center, Killed by Isaiah

> Josephine is MC's grandmother. She raised Caleb alongside MC (functioning as his de-facto adoptive guardian), knew Zayne's family through a social circle, and was a member of the Gaia Research Center's Unicorn team. She was killed in the Bloomshore explosion — confirmed in Xavier's World Underneath: Sealed in Dust as killed by Isaiah, the defected Backtracker. Her death is an event that touches three routes: Xavier (Isaiah's actions), Zayne (Josephine connected to Dr. Noah's circle), Caleb (she raised him).

## Description

Josephine is the off-page character whose life and death connect the most route backstories in the game. She was MC's grandmother and primary guardian. She also took in Caleb, functioning as his de-facto adoptive guardian — establishing him and MC as something between adoptive siblings (a status that CN/KR/JP scripts explicitly dissolve after her death). Josephine was a member of the Gaia Research Center's Unicorn team, placing her in the same scientific-historical context as the Wanderer research that underlies the entire world. She was personally known to Dr. Noah, Zayne's mentor and MC's original cardiologist. She was killed in the Bloomshore District explosion — a fact confirmed by two separate routes: Caleb's Homecoming Wings arc names EVER as the mastermind, and Xavier's World Underneath: Sealed in Dust confirms Isaiah as the killer. Her death is the event that triggers Caleb's 'death' and connects Xavier's EVER antagonist directly to Caleb's resurrection arc.
